Chelsea star: Mourinho made me tougher, fitter & I’m ready to play more often

Andre Schurrle scored a match-winning hat-trick on Saturday vs Fulham & has revealed that manager Jose Mourinho’s advice to improve his physical attributes upon arrival at Chelsea has helped him.

“We talked a lot, of course,” Schurrle told Sky Sports. “He told me I needed to change, to change my game and my body, and that is what I have done over the last two months.

“I have really worked very hard to be aggressive, to be in a good shape with my body. Now I’m ready to play more often.

“I did a lot in the gym, but I wanted to do this, I needed to do this. The manager told me it as well, I wanted to change and I think I have.”

While Chelsea have struggled for a regular goalscoring striker this season, with Torres, Eto’o and Ba failing to hit the net with regularity, it appears that Mourinho’s other forward options are able to assist. Schurrle has rarely played this season since his move from Bayer Leverkusen but his three-goal salvo offer a glimpse at his potential.
