Pellegrini: Man City is the only club in Manchester this season

By on February 17, 2014

“If we only consider this season, there is just one club in Manchester and it’s ours but you cannot forget what United has done in the previous years.”

Manuel Pellegrini has upped the ante ahead of Manchester City’s crucial Champions League tie with Barcelona. Of course, Pellegrini is alluding to Manchester United’s domestic league struggles that has seen the Premier League champions drift far from the tightly-grouped top-four of Chelsea, Arsenal, City and Liverpool. David Moyes was brought in to replace Sir Alex Ferguson, but has so far failed.

Pellegrini continued: ”We are aiming to keep growing by winning trophies – not just national but international trophies. We are fighting for four titles this year. We have to be patient because you cannot change the team from one day to another. We have to keep the philosophy of the style and for that you need time.”

It’s hard to argue with Pellegrini given Manchester City’s dominant style but is an indication of just how far United have fallen from grace.
