Manchester United keeper handed new deal

David De Gea is poised to sign a new £90k deal that will tie him down Manchester United until at least 2018.

With the Spanish international De Gea’s current contract expires in 2016, it appears that David Moyes and United want to secure his services for a further two years. A pleasant surprise for Reds fans after club captain Nemanja Vidic announced his intention to leave at the end of the current season.

The £25million-rated Spaniard has been linked with a move to La Liga giants FC Barcelona, but this will likely ward off their advances. He joined United from Atletico Madrid for £17.5m in 2011 and endured a tough transition into English football. Many pundits said he wasn’t good enough to replace Edwin van der Sar, but it appears that the club are keen to endorse his established position in the Premier League top goalkeepers.
