Chelsea Make Audacious Last-Minute Move for Man United’s Hernandez

By on January 29, 2014

Chelsea have reportedly made an audacious last-minute swoop for out-of-favour Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez.

Chelsea are apparently hoping to leverage the goodwill that they demonstrated in selling Juan Mata to United several days ago into a deal for the Mexican striker.

Hernandez has not been a mainstay in the United side this year, but has regularly performed well when he has featured.

Chelsea’s strikers, on the other hand, have been collectively sub-par. Between them, they have only managed five goals in a combined 25 Premier League appearances.

Hernandez is apparently keen on the switch, in order to gain match fitness and playing time before the World Cup in Brazil.

Mourinho, having watched his side recently drop points to West Ham at home, is beginning to lose patience with his strikers. Chelsea had 31 shots on target versus the hammers, but only 9 of those were on target.

Mourinho will certainly hope that the acquisition of Hernandez, if it proves successful, will provide some goalscoring assistance to his struggling forward line.
