Rooney set to become the Premier League’s highest-paid player

By on January 25, 2014

Rooney’s new contract will make him the highest-paid footballer in the Premier League with a basic wage of more than £300,000 a week.

A Manchester United source told the Daily Mirror: Securing the future of Wayne Rooney is an important part of the plan and proves that we will push the boundaries in terms of wages for the right player.”

Rooney will be paid nearly on par with Barcelona’s Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo at Real Madrid.  Manchester United signed Juan Mata, but it appears that the club will pursue January transfer moves for Yohan Cabaye and Luke Shaw before the end of the month. Rooney will welcome the investment following a disappointing preseason that saw only Marouane Fellaini join United.
