Done Deal: Manchester United Sign Juan Mata for £37m

By on January 22, 2014

According to a number of sources, Manchester United will sign Chelsea midfielder Juan Mata this morning for a fee of £37m.

Chelsea accepted the bid yesterday afternoon. This news will certainly buoy Manchester United fans that will be disappointed with their teams  exit from the League Cup against Sunderland last night.

Jose Mourinho hasn’t used Mata since he reacted poorly to being substituted versus Southampton, and the player has started just half of Chelsea’s Premier League fixtures.

However, in the past two seasons the player has been absolutely central to all of Chelsea’s recent success, helping his side to win the FA cup, Champions League and Europa League.

David Moyes will be thrilled with his new acquisition, and the discussion now turns to just how precisely the Spaniard will fit in at Old Trafford.

There has been some talk that Wayne Rooney will be a make-weight in the deal, but it appears not to be the case. For now, it looks like Manchester United have committed daylight robbery and snagged one of Chelsea’s best players without having to weaken their own squad.

At Stamford Bridge, the inquiry to find out just how the board have allowed one of the fan favourites leave to a league rival begins now.
