Juan Mata could leave Chelsea in the January transfer window.

Mata and his father (also his agent) will have showdown talks about his Chelsea future before the end of the week, according to the Daily Mirror. Juan Mata Sr. is due to travel to London to discuss his son’s future with Chelsea execs.

Atletico Madrid have been touted as potential suitors in the January transfer window. The high-flying La Liga side are hoping to sign him on loan with a view to a permanent transfer move in the summer window.

Mata may prefer a move back to his native Spain ahead of the World Cup squad selection & needs playing time. Atletico Madrid have loaned Thibaut Courtois for three seasons in a row which may help secure Mata on a permanent deal, according to reports.

From back-to-back player of the year, to a disillusioned star; it’s tough for Juan Mata.
