Arsene Wenger: We are on alert for something special

By on December 31, 2013

“We are on alert in the market if something special turns up but we are not desperate,” confirmed Wenger, although he made sure that reporters knew that Liverpool striker Luis Suarez was definitely off the agenda. “We won’t approach for Suarez. He has signed a contract. We gambled on Sanogo at the start, he has not been fit but Bendtner is back and Podolski is back.”

Only 3 clubs in the last 10 Premier League seasons have been leading at the turn of the year & failed to win the Premier League title. Arsenal have been in fine form this season and, following the high-profile capture of Mesut Ozil at the end of the transfer window, will be keen to strengthen further.

Wenger will likely have been looking towards Merseyside with significant envy as Suarez has powered his way to 19 Premier League goals. The Gunners appeared well positioned to snatch the want-away Uruguayan from Liverpool in the summer, but he has now signed a new contract.

It may be that Wenger will turn his attention to some out of contract stars that are free to negotiate with other clubs from January 1, 2014.
