Favourite to Replace AVB Frank de Boer Turns Down Tottenham Offer

Frank de Boer has rejected an approach from Tottenham Hotspur to replace AVB as the manager at White Hart Lane.

De Boer was considered the favourite for the job at Spurs, and his quick dismissal of their offer will be seen as a significant blow in their hopes to sign a new manager quickly.

De Boer is the current manager of Dutch club Ajax, and only signed a new four-year contract last  summer.

Tottenham have continued their downward spiral since AVB’s sacking, following up their embarrassing 5-0 mauling at home to Liverpool with a disappointing 2-1 loss to West Ham in the League Cup.

Ajax, on the other hand, are on track to win their fourth Eredivisie title in a row, and de Boer has impressed mightily since taking over the club in 2010.

Tim Sherwood is the current caretaker manager of Tottenham, but performances such as the defeat to West Ham will not go far in convincing Daniel Levy that he is the right man for a permanent position.

Sherwood said recently, “I don’t know if I’ll be Spurs boss. I haven’t spoken to the chairman. We have to have a chat and see. It has to fit me and the club.”

It would appear then, that with de Boer’s rejection, that Tottenham still have a long way to go until their search for a new manager is complete.
