Chelsea Prepare Outrageous £140m Bid for European Strike-Pair, According to Reports

According to reports from the Daily Express and CaughtOffside, Chelsea may now be prepared to launch an audacious £140m bid for two of Europe’s most lethal strikers – Radamel Falcao and Edinson Cavani.

Chelsea have notched up a decent goal scoring return in the Premier League this season – 31 goals in 16 fixtures – but Mourinho’s strikers have only produced five out of that total.

Chelsea lost to Sunderland in the Capital One Cup last night, and Eto’o and Ba were again guilty of lacklustre performances.

Mourinho’s frustrations with his forwards reached a boiling point recently when he said that his Chelsea side would be leading the league, if he had better strikers.

Mourinho said, “If you tell me Sergio Aguero has scored already 10 or 12 goals, Alvaro Negredo 10 or 12 goals, Edin Dzeko four or five, Wayne Rooney eight or 10, Olivier Giroud eight or 10, Daniel Sturridge eight or 10, Luis Suarez 10 or 12 and ask me would I like my strikers to score eight,10, 12 goals, yes of course.”

“If we had eight,10,12 goals from the strikers, we would be top of the league. That’s a reality.”

Fernando Torres has been troubled by inconsistency and injury this campaign, Eto’o is an ageing veteran and Demba Ba is largely seen by Mourinho as a bit-part player.

Falcao is reportedly unsettled at Monaco having fallen out with manager Claudio Ranieri, and the fact that he and Mourinho share the same agent is not insignificant. Similarly, Cavani is reportedly keen on making a move to the Premier League as he sees it as the ultimate acid test for his abilities.

What do you think? Are these signings likely?
