Outrageous: Chelsea Prepare Stunning £65m January Bid for Luis Suarez

By on December 5, 2013

According to a CaughtOffside “exclusive,” Chelsea have prepared a £65m bid for Liverpool striker Luis Suarez.

The article is dubious in its lack of sources or tangible evidence that a move is being prepared, yet there is some evidence to suggest that Suarez, at the least, rather fancies a move away from Anfield.

Only yesterday Suarez stated that he will remain at Anfield “until the end of the year,” suggesting that a move to more trophy-laden pastures may be on the horizon.

Chelsea would certainly represent one of those clubs that could fulfill the ambition of a player of Suarez’ stature. Of course, they play in the Champions League and they regularly challenge for the title and for domestic cup honours. They also have the ability to significantly increase Suarez’ massive wages – another enticing prospect for the player. Further, the lure of working with Mourinho and living in London might provide added incentive for a switch.

Chelsea also have a transfer history with Liverpool. Of course, Chelsea nabbed £50m Fernando Torres from Liverpool when he was near to the peak of his powers – much like Suarez is today.  A bid of £65m would also, in fairness, be about the right sum for a player in such good form.

Liverpool did reject a bid of £40m plus one pound from Arsenal in the summer, but CaughtOffside suggest that the increased sum might finally be enough to pry Liverpool’s grip off of their star asset.

Ultimately though, this appears to just be another fluff rumour with little substance. While it’s certainly possible that a move could materialize, it’s surely more likely to be abroad than to a direct title rival.

What do you think? Will Liverpool sell Suarez to Chelsea?
