Arsenal are reportedly the heavy favourites to land the signature of one of the hottest young German prospects.

Julian Draxler is apparently on the brink of putting pen to paper for the Emirates club, having been encouraged to join by Arsenal star Mesut Ozil.

The 20-year-old is considered one of the top youngsters in Europe, and has impressed in his performances in the Bundesliga and Champions League for Schalke 04. He already has 130 appearances for Schalke and 10 international caps for Germany to his name.

Draxler has a £38m buyout clause in his contract, and his excellent performances this year have convinced Arsene Wenger that now is the time to snap up this promising youngster.

Earlier Draxler said of Arsenal: “I’ve always said English teams are very big clubs and Arsenal are one of them. I sometimes speak to Mesut or Per about the team, about the club, and they always have good words.”

Wenger is hoping that the presence of Lukas Podolski, Mesut Ozil and Per Mertesacker at the Emirates will be the final drive to Draxler, and will hopefully convince him to sign for the Gunners.
