Sturridge: Advice from Drogba Makes Me a Better Player
Liverpool frontman Daniel Sturridge has said that his explosive start to the Premier League season is in part due to advice given to him by former teammate Didier Drogba.
Sturridge has been in exceptional form for Liverpool this season, scoring in all but one game so far. His latest outing including a delightful chip against West Bromwich Albion.
Now, the prolific striker has revealed how Didier Drogba has provided him with advice that has stuck with him throughout his matches this year. Speaking to the Sunday Times, Sturridge said:
“I saw Didier in Miami this summer.”
“He said the strongest thing an individual can have is the mental strength.”
“He told me, ‘It’s not about the tactical, it’s not about the technical, it’s not about the physical. If you believe in yourself, that will set you apart.”
Sturridge has blossomed since he left Stamford Bridge, and has since admitted that he tried “too hard” to impress prior to his switch to Anfield. Sturridge also attributes some of his success to the guidance of club captain Steven Gerrard:
“Stevie has helped me a lot in terms of mindset.”
“He’s all about self belief; don’t go out there with the mentality of trying to do something. Just let it happen.”
Whatever it is that Sturridge has done, it certainly appears to be working. What do you think? Is Sturridge the most lethal striker in the Premier League?
