Spurs set to bid £28m in January for Top Premier League Striker
Tottenham Hotspur appear set to make a sizeable bid for Aston Villa star striker Christian Benteke this January.
Benteke, who has burst on to the Premier League scene as a top striker in the last year, recently signed a new contract for Villa only this summer.
However, many observers believe that that contract was nothing more than a stop-gap in order to prevent Benteke leaving for free. Whilst his contract was a four-year deal, it is largely presumed inevitable that his time at Villa will be cut short.
Whilst Paul Lambert remains staunchly determined to hold on to one of the league’s best, Tottenham’s substantial spending power appears set to test Villa’s resolve.
Benteke scored 23 goals in his first Premier League season, and has found the net five times already this campaign in only seven starts.
There are rumours that Villa will hold out for a sum in the region of £35m for their star striker, which is £7m more than Spurs’ valuation. However, Tottenham are reportedly also keeping tabs on the likes of Javier Hernandez if Villa price them out of a deal for Benteke.
