Andrea Pirlo “likely” to Join Tottenham Next Year
Juventus and Italy legend Andrea Pirlo appears “likely” to move to English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur next summer.
The 34-year-old playmaker has reportedly been in contact with Tottenham officials, and there is the possibility that the player might even sign a pre-contract agreement this January.
According to friend Gianluca Vialli, a discourse between the parties has already been opened. The former Chelsea manager said, while working for Sky Italia during Juventus’ victory over AC Milan, “there are contacts between Andrea Pirlo and Tottenham for the next season.”
Pirlo only joined Juventus in 2011, and has won consecutive Serie A titles since his move. Juventus have insisted that they plan to keep Pirlo beyond the season, but rumours are abound that their contract discussions have broken down.
Although Pirlo possesses undoubted quality, there are question marks surrounding his age and ability to compete at the top-level. Tottenham will certainly not want to pay a large sum for a player that is very much in the twilight of his career – and if they do attain his services it will likely be on a free transfer.
What do you think? Does Pirlo still have what it takes to compete? In his ripe old age, would he be able to adapt to the Premier League?
