Man Utd and Man City in Battle to Sign “Next Eden Hazard”

By on October 6, 2013

Manchester United and Manchester City are reportedly ready to face off in a bid to sign a Belgian teenager who has been hailed as the “next Eden Hazard.”

The target is Zakaria Bakkali, a 17 year old who has played only eight games for PSV Eindhoven. Despite his lack of experience, Bakkali is already breaking records – he recently became the youngest ever player to score a hat-trick in the Eredivisie when he netted three times against NEC Nijmegen at the ripe old age of 17 years and 196 days.

Arsenal have reportedly also expressed significant interest in the youngster, and it is the nature of contracts in Holland that make the player such an interesting prospect. Legally, Bakkali is unable to sign a professional contract in the Netherlands until he turns 18 – until then, he is able to sign for any club in England.

Belgium manager Marc Wilmots has likened the player to his compatriot Hazard, stating that he is a “player that scores easily, is very fast and has skillfull dribbling. Zakaria has just about the same profile as Eden. If something happens to Eden, I will swap him for Bakkali.”

Manchester United and Manchester City have registered their interest and rumours are abound that they have both made contact with the player’s agent. Evidently, there appears to be a Mancunian transfer saga brewing on the horizon.
