Barcelona star rejected Liverpool move
Barcelona wonderkid Cristian Tello has revealed he rejected advances from Brendan Rodgers & Liverpool this summer. Rodgers had been keen to add the Spanish left winger to his squad as he favours pace & flair.
The impressive 22-year-old La Masia product has been at the Catalan club since 2010, but previously spent 6 years as a youth team player. Tello is behind Ibrahim Afellay, Pedro Rodriguez and Alexis Sanchez, in the pecking order & few would have taken issue with the youngster had he sought first team football in the Premier League.
Tello revealed that current Premier League leaders Liverpool wanted him during the the summer transfer window, but he brushed off their attempts to sign him in order to earn his place in Barcelona’s first XI.
‘I always wanted to stay here,’ he told reporters. ‘The coach has confidence in me, I’m happy and ready to play. I knew that Liverpool were interested in me, but I never thought about leaving.’
Tello impressed for Spain’s Under-21 side as they were crowned European U21 champions this summer but has only featured twice as a substitute for Barcelona this season.
