Spanish midfielder: I blame Manchester United for failed transfer
The Athletic Bilbao star Ander Herrera insists Manchester United have “questions to answer” after the proposed transfer ended with no resolution. The Premier League champions have struggled in the summer transfer window, with only Marouane Fellaini joining as a major acquisition. Much criticism has been dealt to United following a forgettable summer.
The proposed move collapsed on transfer deadline day after it was claimed that imposters barged their way in on the deal and Manchester United trying to persuade Athletic Bilbao to lower Ander Herrera’s minimum fee release clause of £36m.
Herrera said: “United knew perfectly well that they had to pay the release fee to be able to talk to me but that was not the case.
“Paying the clause is just the first step. After that they have to appeal to me more than Athletic does and that is very difficult.
“At no moment did either I or my agent reach an agreement with United. At no moment did I speak with United.
“I do not know if they spoke with my agent, but after that they would need to persuade me to leave.”
