How Arsenal beat Manchester United to sign Mesut Ozil
The Daily Mirror report that Manchester United made a last-minute attempt to sign Mesut Ozil as Arsenal were on the verge of signing the Real Madrid man.
Manchester United made informal enquiries on Monday to Real Madrid as David Moyes began to feel the heat for his summer of transfer failings. Mirror Sport report that United made the last-ditch attempts to sign the German playmaker on Monday morning after the Old Trafford side were offered the former Werder Bremen man, just two weeks ago.
Mesut Ozil had only just turned down a more lucrative offer from PSG, and it appears Arsenal also beat Manchester United to a transfer deal with Real Madrid. What a coup.
The Gunners signed the £42m midfielder on a five year deal at £140k/week. The deal Ozil – the second biggest transfer deal in Premier League history after Fernando Torres’ £50m move to Chelsea in 2011 – has given Arsenal fans a much-needed boost ahead of another season with Arsene Wenger at the helm.
The Gunners are ready for the fight; Manchester United left wondering where it all went wrong.
