Arsenal Set to Break Transfer Record With £40m Madrid Star
According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal appear close to breaking their transfer record by signing Real Madrid’s Mesut Ozil for a whopping £40million pounds. They face stiff opposition in PSG and Manchester United, but Arsene Wenger remains confident that he may yet sign the German midfielder.
Ozil was left on the bench for Real’s 3-1 victory over Athletic Bilbao this Sunday, and appeared frustrated as he set next to an equally disenchanted Iker Casillas on the Bernabeu bench.
Reportedly, Ozil has made it clear in private that he wants to leave Madrid with his place in the team now seriously under threat following the arrival of Gareth Bale.
Arsenal reportedly opened up talks with the German on Friday, and are willing to meet Ozil’s £180,000-a-week wage demands.
However, PSG made an enquiry on Sunday, and United are apparently considering coming in for Ozil after initially suggesting that he was not the type of player that they need.
Ozil has suggested in private that England is his preference, with Arsenal or United being his favoured destinations.
