Mourinho “wants to sign striker” before window closes.
According to the Daily Mail, Jose Mourinho is still keen on signing another striker before the closure of the transfer window on September 2nd. Jose Mourinho will apparently make one last attempt to convince Roman Abramovich to sign a world-class striker before the end of the window after being underwhelmed by Chelsea’s current strike force.
So far, Chelsea’s strikers have been in quiet form, albeit with Fernando Torres recently turning in a good performance versus Bayern Munich in the Super Cup. Romelu Lukaku, another of Chelsea’s strike options, miserably missed the decisive penalty in that match, leading to Chelsea losing the cup.
Mourinho has also recently signed his ex-player Samuel Eto’o from Anzi only last week, but the Cameroonian forward is in the twilight of his career at the ripe age of 32.
Reportedly, Mourinho is appealing for inquiries to be made regarding the status of Robert Lewandowski and Madrid striker Karem Benzema.
Certainly, one major obstacle to another star signing is the already inflated wages of Fernando Torres. Torres’ large salary will be difficult to shift on to other sides following his underwhelming spell at Chelsea since he signed in 2011.
However, if Mourinho is successful in his pursuit of a new star striker, then Chelsea will surely be considered among the favourites to win the Premier League and will be capable of doing some considerable damage in the UEFA Champions League this season.
