Oscar: Chelsea can be one of the great European teams again

By on March 9, 2013

Chelsea’s summer signing, Brazilian youngster Oscar, has reiterated Chelsea’s credentials as a redeveloping force in European football.

“It has been difficult this season because we have been in this period of ‘transition’,” says Oscar, who has seen Roberto Di Matteo sacked early in the season and replaced by Rafa Benitez.

“We’ve lost some important games, been knocked out of competitions we’d hoped to win, and the Champions League was the biggest one.” Realistically, Chelsea’s last remaining goal is to qualify for next season’s competition. Dust themselves off and try again.

“We’re a young team, a new team, with good players: Eden Hazard, David Luiz, Ryan Bertrand, Juan Mata …These are players who can help Chelsea become one of the greatest teams in Europe again.”

Patience. Time. Forward-thinking. Perhaps, at last, Chelsea will heed the advice of journalists, pundits, and fans the world over. Give the new manager a chance. It seems almost cliché to say: it’s time for Chelsea to instill some stability.

The team is fresh but the ideas remain the same. Success, failure, change & repeat.
