By on January 5, 2013

With pressure mounting on Arsene Wenger to dip into the January transfer market, the Gunners have been linked with a number of high-profile transfer targets.

David Villa

The Daily Mirror are reporting that Arsene Wenger has personally contacted David Villa in a bid to encourage a transfer away from Barcelona. The Gunners have been heavily linked with Villa, 31, who Barcelona reportedly want to keep until at least the end of the season. (link)

Any transfer move for Villa would be difficult before the summer, but it seems Wenger is keen to push it through before the end of the transfer window.

Adrian Lopez

Arsenal are reportedly also keen on Atletico Madrid striker Adrian Lopez but Arsene Wenger has refused to pay his £14million buy-out clause. Atletico Madrid, keen on keeping goal-machine Radamel Falcao, may look to transfer Adrian Lopez in a bid to settle some of their financial woes. The 24-year-old Spanish international Lopez is apparently keen on a possible move.

It had been suggested that Arsenal would have been keen on signing Demba Ba, but opted to sign Olivier Giroud from Montpellier instead in the summer.
