Rafa Benitez joins Chelsea: “we have five trophies to fight for”

By on November 22, 2012

Chelsea, in light of their poor performance vs Juventus and in recent weeks, sacked club legend Roberto Di Matteo little over six months after winning the FA Cup and Champions League while in interim charge.

While fans will argue that Chelsea rushed the dismissal of Di Matteo, others venture to suggest that the Italian was never first choice. That is a moot point.

Chelsea have their third manager in 2012 and that mentality is becoming all-too familiar for outsiders. Rafa Benitez said in his first press conference as

“I am here, because I want to be here. It’s a massive club.  Looking for the right opportunity, fight for trophies. I don’t care about the short term [deal]. We have five trophies to fight for.”

“I have a very good relationship with Guardiola .. .what will happen in the future you never know”

“I am sure [the fans] will be happy with a manager with a winning mentality.”

Wins will certainly win over fans, but for now Rafa Benitez remains an unpopular choice at Chelsea.
