Jack Wilshere returns for Arsenal, impresses after long absence

Jack Wilshere has made his long-awaited return to first team action after nearly a year-and-a-half out injured. As Arsene Wenger noted, the last time Jack Wilshere played for the Gunners, he played alongside the likes of Robin van Persie, Cesc Fabregas, and Samir Nasri. This is a new Arsenal.

Wenger said of Wilshere post-match: “You could see technically he is there, and he gave everything, and what he is missing he will get through competition. He still misses a bit of the pace of the game, the rhythm of the game, but overall what he did was class.”

“I made the decision without telling him because when you have not played for such a long time it is not always easy to deal with that and there is a high level of expectation when he goes on the pitch. I also felt the confidence of the team was a bit jaded and sometimes players with experience and quality give a bit of a lift as well.”

Jack Wilshere said in a post-match interview: “It’s amazing. Last time I played it was with Nasri and Fabregas, now it’s with Arteta and Cazorla so it’s like a new team”

According to the StatsZone app, Wilshere’s passing – especially in the final third – was impressive.
