The curse for Milan and Italy is finally over after a convincing 4-0 win at the San Siro on Wednesday night against Arsenal.

Kevin Prince Boateng’s wonder goal was among the highlights in a Rossoneri dominated match. Robinho also shined netting a brace with Zlatan Ibrahimovic scoring from the spot and assisting the aforementioned Brazilian attacker. For Milan, it was the eleventh time they’ve won in all competitions after scoring the first goal (7 Serie A, 2 Coppa Italia, 2 Champions League) and it was the first time in 222 European fixtures that Arsenal lost by four goals or more, not to mention it was the twelfth time out of their last fourteen when the Gunners have conceded at least one goal in Champions League games.

Milan were dominant despite lack of possession

Looking at those stats, it was no surprise just how dominant Milan was. Fifteen shots (five on target) compared to Arsenal’s eight (four on target) showed that the Italians took every opportunity they got with their share of the possession (47%). Moving onto individual performances, no one made a bigger impact for Milan than “The Prince”, while he did get a goal on his return to the line-up, his presence and creativity in an otherwise gritty midfield made a significant difference to players like Ibra and Robinho, who in the absence of technical midfielders had to conjure up key passes and goals. With Boateng starting yesterday night, the two front men could focus on the one thing they’re judged on, scoring. Ibrahimovic had a very strong match, even though his only tally was from the spot in the seventy-ninth minute, but he assisted on Robinho’s first of night and caused lots of problems for a nervous Arsenal defense. Had it not been for the offsides that were called against the big Swede, it could’ve been a lot worse for the lifeless North Londoners. Lastly, the unsung hero of the night had to be Mark Van Bommel, who anchored the midfield very well with his composure and terrific passing to get the ball from the back to the attacking third. If it wasn’t for him, Arsenal may have had more on the ball and better chances at Christian Abbiati’s net.

A boost to AC Milan’s form

Massimiliano Allegri should be very pleased with his squad’s performance tonight because this wasn’t his best eleven, and yet they put in a very solid performance, even though Arsenal’s defending was poor. However, it’ll be a great boost having both Boateng and Alexandre Pato back, who did come on in the final ten minutes of the match, as Allegri will have some more choices in attack to accommodate the upcoming congested schedule. Not to mention that this win should reignite the Rossoneri in their quest for the Scudetto as they’ll be facing off against their challengers, Juventus, next weekend in what is already being deemed as the game that would decide the Scudetto holders. Along with that, Milan should be taken far more seriously now that most of their squad is healthy.

Whoever their next opponent is, they must prepare well unless they want to hear the words “Four-za Milan!”
