Real Madrid lose Ronaldo, Benzema, Marcelo for Tottenham match, but Higuain is set for an unlikely return.
Real Madrid’s celebrated trio of Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Marcelo are set to miss the penultimate match with Tottenham on Tuesday. Jose Mourinho has reported that the three players will not be available until the 9th of April when Madrid face Atletico Bilbao.
Ronaldo has a niggling hamstring injury, Frenchman Benzema has an issue with his thigh and Marcelo has a rib injury.
Benzema and Marcelo acquired their injuries during national team duty with France and Brazil respectively- further stoking the embers of the weak club vs. country relationship.
However, Mourinho does have some good news, as Argentinean striker Gonzalo Higuain is included in Real’s squad to face Gijon on Saturday. “
The match against Gijon would represent the first time Higuin will have featured for Madrid since November.
In a recent interview, the Special One was ecstatic at the goal poacher’s early return.
“Not even with the best estimate would we expect him to return to playing so soon. We’re very happy. His recovery is a positive surprise because we thought he may miss up to the final 15 games of the season and having him is important”
